Current trends reveal that while the color laser printer industry is moving towards the release of more affordable and innovative units, the Epson Stylus Photo PX810FW InkJet priner is not. Traditionally, InkJet printers are priced way, way below most color laser printers but the PX810FW is sold with a price tag of over $400. And to think that some color desktop laser printers are available for $300, certainly a more expensive InkJet printer will be a puzzle to most users. Well, here’s the catch.

The Epson PX810FW is at present the most advanced and feature integrated photo-printer designed for home use. With its black, sleek look, the printer easily blends with any office environment. But a central feature of this top-of-the range equipment is the ability to view (in full lucid colors), edit, and print color documents directly from a memory card using only the touch control panel. This functionality allows direct printing from PictBridge matching cameras and an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software devised for scanning. And with Epson brand photo paper, high-quality photos and images are already within reach or can be stored directly into compatible CD’S and DVD’S.

A key component to the stunning print output delivered by this powerful inkjet is Epson’s Micro Piezo print head technology. Said technology when utilized with the Epson Clara Photographic Ink assures the production of life-like images with sharp and vibrant colors that even exceeds photo laboratory quality. Images produced using the Epson Clara Photographic Ink are warranted to last 98 years when placed in a photo frame and over 200 years when slipped inside a photo album. On the side of ink consumables, the printer uses individual ink cartridges so that the user will only have to replace the cartridge running out of ink without affecting performance. This ink replacement sequence gives due advantage to the user as it will substantially reduce expenses on consumables.

In terms of print speed, the PX810Fw is a character reserved only for laser printers because in ‘draft mode’ the unit prints text at the rate of 17.1 pages per minute (PPM). Although at this PPM rating, the printouts appear a little faint, darker and more comfortable results can be achieved at the speed of 7.4 PPM; that is when activating the ‘best mode’ printer function. When doing duplex printing or double sided printing, the print speed drops to only 4.2 PPM. While typically adequate, this could not be considered fast enough as a practical choice.

Just how the Epson Stylus Photo PX810FW all-in-one InkJet printer affects users preference? The cost and features of the printer will ultimately justify its ‘eye watering’ cost.
